I had the opportunity to shoot a very contemporary art event on Saturday. This event took place at Liv Again Art Bar in Cambridge, MD and featured two very interesting artists. The first, Shelton Hawkins pictured below, (first pic standing to the left) created all of the featured art pieces shown below. He defines himself not as an artist, but as a creative person who is inspired by sneakers...Nike in particular. Each piece that he created for this art show was inspired by Nike shoe concepts that he designed through NikeID. Of all the pieces, my favorite was the Picasso inspired piece because of his interesting use of shapes and bold colors. The second artist, Devon Beck pictured below, (first pic standing to the right) is a very unique hip-hop emcee who prides himself on his creative lyrical abilities. Devon, most notable for his current album "The Resistance", has been rapping for over ten years and doesn't believe in compromising his character, morals, or values for popularity. His biggest motivation to date has been the loss of his mother which he openly addresses in his song entitled "Room 244". That particular song, and "Diary of a Liquor Bottle" are two of my favorite songs from his album. Hawkins and Beck have been friends for over 2 decades. This event was very interesting to shoot because it is the first of its kind, so I didn't know what to expect. This fusion of art, sneakers and hip- hop drew a cool, comfortable crowd and created very interesting dialogue among strangers.
