I've been so busy these last several months that I haven't had much time to blog. I figured today would be a good day to dust off the ole computer, and tell an interesting tale. This story is about a couple that I have known for quite some time. They had all intentions on having a grand wedding, but after being bombarded with the details of having a big wedding, they decided to simplify the process. They (along with their daughter) planned an escape to Paradise Island, Bahamas to the Atlantis Resort to elope. I was asked to document their wedding only several days prior to their escape. The idea was to keep this ceremony intimate, private and to create their own unique story of love that could be shared and passed down from generation to generation like a storybook princess tale. I agreed to photograph this memorable event as a reason to be the only other person to witness such a special occasion. Here are a few photos that I would like to share. Also, I received photo publication credit in a fashion magazine. Click on the red magazine article button below to check it out:
August proved to be a very busy month for me, particularly the first week. I had the opportunity to do three weddings over a four day period. The first wedding took place on Thursday, August 6th at the Newton White Mansion in Mitchellville, Maryland. I shot this lively evening wedding along with Capturing Perfection Photography and it was the kickoff to a very eventful weekend. The second event was on Saturday, August 8th at Montclair Country Club in Woodbridge, Virginia. This beautiful 14 year vow renewal ceremony was done in the likeness of a traditional wedding followed immediately by a formal reception. This couples ongoing commitment to each other was truly inspirational to capture. Vow renewals are very special because they prove that a couples love can withstand the test of time and therefore, should be celebrated. Below are a few images that I captured, highlighting the 14 year vow renewal ceremony. The first picture is the bride's photo product package prior to delivery; a large 12x12 hardcover photo-wrapped album, over 700 edited high resolution images on 2 discs, an 11x14 large wall portrait print, a few 8x10's and 5x7's. It is extremely gratifying to see the emotion of a bride when she opens her album and pictures for the first time, so I hand deliver all my wedding photo products. The final wedding was on Sunday, August 9th, and was also at the Newton White Mansion. At this event, I assisted one of the DMV's top wedding photographers, Kirth Bobb.
On September 10, I shot the "Back to School" Concert featuring Devon Beck, Aaron Camper and Black Alley at the world famous Howard Theater in Washington, DC. Beck gave me an all access media pass and I was able to capture some of the images below. Beck's retro Hip-Hop sound, and Aaron Camper's blend of R&B, Hip-Hop and Soul sounded great behind their live bands. As we all know, Black Alley put on an outstanding show as well. I was also blown away by the amazing murals backstage so I posted some images below.
I had the opportunity to shoot a very contemporary art event on Saturday. This event took place at Liv Again Art Bar in Cambridge, MD and featured two very interesting artists. The first, Shelton Hawkins pictured below, (first pic standing to the left) created all of the featured art pieces shown below. He defines himself not as an artist, but as a creative person who is inspired by sneakers...Nike in particular. Each piece that he created for this art show was inspired by Nike shoe concepts that he designed through NikeID. Of all the pieces, my favorite was the Picasso inspired piece because of his interesting use of shapes and bold colors. The second artist, Devon Beck pictured below, (first pic standing to the right) is a very unique hip-hop emcee who prides himself on his creative lyrical abilities. Devon, most notable for his current album "The Resistance", has been rapping for over ten years and doesn't believe in compromising his character, morals, or values for popularity. His biggest motivation to date has been the loss of his mother which he openly addresses in his song entitled "Room 244". That particular song, and "Diary of a Liquor Bottle" are two of my favorite songs from his album. Hawkins and Beck have been friends for over 2 decades. This event was very interesting to shoot because it is the first of its kind, so I didn't know what to expect. This fusion of art, sneakers and hip- hop drew a cool, comfortable crowd and created very interesting dialogue among strangers.
